Cooking rice perfectly every time might seem difficult but it’s not. Rice can be cooked in different ways and every home might have a secret technique to cook the rice perfectly.
Here, we’re going to see 3 different methods of cooking the perfect rice and each method requires a different proportions of water. However it is important, whichever method is used the perfectly cooked rice grains must be whole and distinct.
To give the rice this form and to not cook sticky rice, The rice should not be stirred too much and also should not be cooked too long. To cook fluffy and separate grain rice follow these methods. These methods will also work with Parboiled or short-grain rice and Long grain rice.
1. Boiled Rice – Indian Style:
This boiling method is one of a widely used method to cook rice in India and its the simplest way. This method requires 12 times more water than rice. Boiled Rice is not only the healthiest option for people who suffers diseases like diabetes but also it serves an excellent foundation for other dishes that to be served as a whole meal. The stained water of the rice can be used in the preparation of soups and sauces, as it contains much nutrition values.

1 Cup Indian Rice ( for more accurate results Use our brand – Olivilaku Puzhungal Arisi)
3 Tsp Salt
3 L boiling water
Rinse the rice properly to gets rid of dusty starches and use your fingers to swirl the rice and water around and discard the cloudy water. Repeat the same steps again. It’s important to wash the rice thoroughly to get a fluffy texture.
Now add the salt and cleaned rice in the boiling water. Allow the rice to cook well in boiling water for some time or until the water begins to appear milky. You can check the state of rice easily by crushing them between your fingers. Once the rice is tender and chewy drain the water through a colander and then pour cold water to get loose separate strands of rice. Now Serve hot with your favorite gravy.
2. JAPANESE STEAMED METHOD :
In the Japanese method, cooking rice is the fundamental of all their meal. They mostly use electric rice cookers and every home has a kind of it. The method they use is called as absorption method of cooking rice.

INGREDIENTS:
1 Cup Short Grain Rice
2 Tsp Salt
1.2 Cup Water
Rinse and wash the short-grain rice thoroughly until the water becomes clear. Now soak the rice at least for 30 minutes. Use the colander to drain the water as much as possible. Now place the rice in the saucepan and add water. Cook for 10 mins over medium heat with a lid on. When the water comes to boil cook for another 15 mins. Now turn off the heat and allow it to cook for another ten mins without opening the lid. Open the lid and stir the rice a few times. Serve in the same way as boiled rice.
3. STEAMED RICE:
This is method is almost the same as the Japanese method. Here we use the rice and water ratio as 1:2 and cook the rice using a pressure cooker. This method is quick and effective and it gives a great result – soft and fluffy textured rice to serve with many Indian dishes
METHOD:
Rinse and clean the water well under the running water. Place the rice in the pressure cooker and add water and salt as per taste. For 1 cup of rice use 2-2.5 cups of water. Cover the pressure cooker with weights on. Cook the rice on medium heat and turn off the stove after 3 whistles. Allow the pressure to cook the rice furthermore and open the lid only after no pressure in the cooker. This makes the rice more soft and fluffy. Serve the rice with dal or any gravy of your choice.
